[edit] History
As the Guitar Hero 5 trivia section implied, June Carter wrote this song, based on her feeling for Cash, who at the time was a drug addict and alcoholic. Despite that, she was in love with him. June released it, but when it failed to be successful, Cash himself re-released it, including trumpets, and the song made the charts.
[edit] In the Guitar Hero series
This song is playable in Guitar Hero 5, with Johnny Cash cameoing, singing the song. The game contains a re-recording from 1987. The original recording was released in 1963.
[edit] In other Media
In the film Walk the Line, the biography of Johnny Cash, Carter briefly appears writing and performing the song by herself. Later on in the film, Cash also plays the song, albeit without the trumpets.
[edit] Lyrics
Love is a burning thing
and it makes a firery ring
bound by wild desire
I fell in to a ring of fire...
I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns, burns, burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.
The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
oh, but the fire went wild.
I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.
