Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is a rhythm video game that simulates playing instruments through a video game. Smash Hits is the tenth installment in the Guitar Hero series. It is also named Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits in Australia. It is derived of songs taken from previous games in the series. Namely, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, Guitar Hero III, and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The game permits full band play, which consists of playing lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals. Full band play was not present in the games listed, which is a major selling point for the video game.

Reception

IGN.com gave Guitar Hero: Smash Hits a 7.0, and labeled the game as decent. </br> Team Xbox gave the game a 6 out of 10.
The game is often criticized as being unnecessary as a full game. Critics say that the game should have been released as Downloadable Content for Guitar Hero: World Tour. However, the set list in the game was given generally high praise.
